augsburg_B Slalom World Cup in Augsburg

This month was one of the hardest but also one of the best in my life.

Saturday was another hot day in Augsburg. Who ever could, he just jumped to the river of Lach just to refresh himself and get some energy to watch the semifinals of C2, C1 women and K1 men in the morning and finals in the afternoon.
In C2 category Olympic winners Hochschorners finished at the 10th place after semifinals, but one touch of Polish boat Piotr Szczepanski and Marcin Pochwala was cancelled and they got to finals and Hochschorners moved to 11th place.
Winners of semifinals was British boat Timothy Baillie and Etienne Stott, second finished Slovaks Ladislav and Peter Škantár and third German boat Marcus Becker and Stefan Henze. In C2 finals another German boat David Schroeder and Frank Henze performed a really fast run and also with a 2 second penalty they won gold medal. Silver medal went to France by Fabien Lefevre and Denis Gargaud and bronze medal went to Timothy Baillie and Etienne Stott from Great Britain. Last weekend winners from La Seu, Ladislav and Peter Škantár, finished at fourth place.

In La Seu last weekend there was no German boat in finals, in Augsburg they showed how they are good at their home-course. Spanish paddler Maialen Chourraut finished second and Jana Dukátová from Slovakia third.

In C1 men semi-final we could see how the Slovak paddlers are fast and hard to beat. With the best run Matej Beňuš won semifinals, Alexander Slafkovský finished third and Michal Martikán fourth. The only canoeist who got between them was Sideris Tasiadis from Germany who finished second. Good form showed also Japanese Takuya Haneda, who got again in the finals after the last weekend.
