12 of 15 medals won Vajda Team athletes during first ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup race in Prague last weekend.

 

First final cagerory, C1 women, ended up with two first places taking Chinese girls Nangin Cen and Qlanqlan Teng and at third place finished Slovakian Katarína Macová. Two favourites Jana Dukátová and whole weekend leading Jessica Fox got 50 second penalties and finished at sixth and seventh position.

In category C1 men gold medal won Michal Jáně from Czech Republic, who changed at this first position his colleague Stanislav Ježek, who was first after semifinal. Another great run we could see thanks to Benjamin Savšek from Slovenia, who finished with 2 second penalty with silver medal. Bronze medal won Slovak canoeist Alexander Slafkovský. Michal Martikán, twice gold medallist from Olympic games, finished at 8th place.

Another big surprise was category C2 men when gold medal won Chinese double Minghal Hu and Junrong Shu, silver medal won Slovak brothers Peter and Pavol Hochschorner and bronze medal Piotr Szczepanski and Marcin Pochwala.

In men’s kayaks happened the same thing as in women’s K1, Michael Kurt from Switzerland, who was after semifinal at 10th place, got a bronze medal. His run was fast and only two other paddlers beat him. Silver medal won Luboš Hilgert from Czech Republic and gold medal won Italian Daniele Molmenti, who performed really fast run and he was the only one under 93 seconds.Only paddlers at first three places had a clean run, others have 2 or 4 second penalties. John Hastings was satisfied with 7th place, after he didn’t repeat his shocking semi-final win.

At 14.00 final started with Czech Štěpánka Hilgertová. Although it wasn’t a clean run, she ended up with bronze medal. Silver medal went to Great Britain thanks to Fiona Pennie and gold medal won actual World Champion Jasmin Schornberg from Germany. Jasmin Schornberg said about being the best: “I’m very satisfied with my run, and I’m very happy to be the first after the World Championships last year. So, I think everybody will know now that I can paddle and for myself it’s very good.”
